Ackley was elected to a one-year term as chairman of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) at an SPI executive board meeting held May 11 in Boca Raton, Fla. Ackley is president, Davis-Standard Corporation, Pawcatuck, Conn. Other officers elected to one-year terms are Vice Chairman Garth Henry, executive vice president, worldwide plastics, M.A. Hanna Corporation, Cleveland; Secretary R. Jay Finch, vice president, specialty plastics, Ferro Corporation, Cleveland; and Treasurer Paul Appelblom, president, Jatco, Inc., Union City, Calif. Harry B. Ussery, president, UTI Group, Greenville, S.C., is immediate past chairman. The officers will serve from June 1, 2000 through May 31, 2001. Three new directors also join the board effective June 1. They are Harold J. Faig, group vice president, plastics technology, Milacron, Inc., Cincinnati; Roger Klouda, president, MSI Mold Builders, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and David Weil, chairman of the board, Ampacet Corporation, Tarrytown, N.Y. Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc is the trade association representing the fourth-largest manufacturing industry in the United States. SPI's 1,800 members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw material suppliers.
