Contact: Bonnie Merrill Limbach FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DONALD K. DUNCAN NAMED PRESIDENT OF THE SOCIETY OF THE PLASTICS INDUSTRY, INC. WASHINGTON (February 2, 2000) - The Executive Board of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) today named Donald K. Duncan as President of the association. The appointment, which takes effect immediately, fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Larry Thomas on January 1, 2000, after nearly12 years in the position. Previously, Mr. Duncan was President and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont Dow Elastomers LLC, a joint venture between two of the nation's largest chemical companies: DuPont and The Dow Chemical Company. In announcing the appointment, Harry Ussery, Chairman of SPI's Executive Board and President of the UTI Group, noted the challenge facing Mr. Duncan to provide the primary leadership to reorient and reinvigorate SPI with new programs and services for members. "Don Duncan's extensive experience in industry and active role with various trade associations gives us the leadership to take this great association into the new millennium with a new level of excellence and service to its membership," Mr. Ussery said. In accepting the Presidency, Mr. Duncan commented: "For more than 60 years, SPI has ably represented the concerns of the broad spectrum of the plastics industry supply chain. I'm honored to become part of this dynamic organization and intend to work closely with the membership and staff to address a new century of challenges and opportunities for the industry." Before joining DuPont Dow Elastomers, Mr. Duncan was General Managing Director of DuPont's Elastomers Strategic Business Unit, which had revenue of approximately $1 billion and about 2,000 employees located throughout the world. As a member of DuPont's Vice President/General Manager Forum, Mr. Duncan worked with the Office of the Chairman to help provide corporate strategic direction, capital budgets, succession planning and governmental and public relations programs. His prior duties during his 34-year career at DuPont included senior research, manufacturing, marketing and business leadership responsibilities in work assignments throughout the Americas, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region. Mr. Duncan has been active with several polymer and industry trade associations, including the Business Roundtable, the Chemical Manufacturers Association, the International Institute of Synthetic Rubber Producers, the Flexible Packaging Association, the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. A native of West Virginia with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, Mr. Duncan lives in Wilmington, Delaware.
