Contact: Patti Czizik FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SPI Midwest Conference to Highlight Winning Business Strategies Chicago (April 6, 2001) — An in-depth discussion of ergonomics trends and breakout sessions on key business issues highlight the program of events for The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc.'s (SPI) 32nd Annual Midwest Conference, set for June 6-8, 2001 at the Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, Mich. Under the theme, “Surviving to Thriving in Changing Times,” general sessions will focus on key strategies to improve individual company performance and competitiveness, including financial strategies, lean manufacturing, energy issues, site selection, workforce development and frugal facilities management. Speakers will include leading industry analysts, service providers and plant location specialists. Keynote speaker Dr. Kalmin Smith, director of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), will discuss Michigan's experience with the latest trends in ergonomics. Last year, SPI entered into a landmark partnership with MIOSHA to focus on the importance of providing a safe workplace for all workers in the Michigan plastics processing industry. As part of the conference, participating companies will have the opportunity to showcase their business to customers, OEMs and peers through tabletop displays that will be in place throughout the opening network reception and business sessions. The SPI Midwest Region's Founders Award will be presented at a dinner June 7.
