SPI THERMOFORMING INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS

Washington (April 18, 2001) – Products and parts for applications ranging from a Peterbelt dash board assembly to custom-design chocolate trays were among the winners of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc.'s (SPI) Thermoforming Institute National Awards (TINA).

The awards recognize superior aesthetics, creativity, functionality and design difficulty of thermoformed plastic parts.

The Best in Show winner was Kintz Plastics' high-speed document scanning machine cover assembly. Through its Early Vendor Involvement Program, Kintz worked with the customer's engineers to design a unique combination of 15 pressure-formed covers that includes parts with textured, non-drafted side walls, significant undercuts, indented features, and a front cover that is actually a combination of three formed parts seamlessly assembled together as one cover.

Other innovative products honored in the annual awards competition included product displays, food packaging items, industrial packaging, medical and consumer items.

In all, 33 products were entered representing 19 SPI member companies and 11 categories. The awards were announced during the Thermoforming Institute's annual winter meeting March 25-28, 2001, at Marco Island, Fla.
