SPI DIVISION CHANGES NAME, BROADENS FOCUS TO ADVANCE THERMOSET FORMULATING INDUSTRY

WASHINGTON (February 1, 2002) – The Epoxy Resin Formulators Division (ERFD) of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. has announced a name change to reflect its expanded interests, scope and participation.

Now known as the Thermoset Technology Division (TTD), the business unit has as its goal the advancement of the thermoset formulating industry through the development and distribution of information products that help its members protect and improve their businesses while promoting the value of thermoset materials.

Organized as the ERFD in 1957, the TTD is the only organization dedicated solely to serve the needs and interests of thermoset formulators. Member companies include raw material suppliers, thermoset formulators, equipment manufacturers, consulting firms and academic institutions. This membership reflects the multitude of end uses for formulated thermoset products, including adhesives, coatings, civil engineering applications, electrical laminates, composites, tooling, castings and moldings.

The organization meets twice annually at Thermoset Technology Conferences that include presentation of technical papers, tabletop exhibits and forums on industry issues. Conferences for 2002 are planned in Orlando, FL, on March 10-12 and in Cincinnati, OH, on October 13-15.

Additional information is available on the Division's new Web site, www.thermoset.org. Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States. SPI's 1,500 members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw material suppliers. The U.S. plastics industry employs 1.5 million workers and provides $304 billion in annual shipments.
