Contact: Paula Weis FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SPI RELEASES 2002 FINANCIAL AND OPERATING RATIOS SURVEY OF PLASTIC PROCESSORS WASHINGTON (June 13, 2003) - The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) has released 2002 data on financial and operating ratios and statistical benchmarking data in its 41st Financial & Operating Ratios survey of plastic processing companies. A total of 99 companies reported data for 122 plants in the SPI 2002 Financial & Operating Ratios Survey. This survey covers plastic processing companies of all types and reports income statement and balance sheet data expressed as ratios (percentages). In addition to the financial and operating ratios, statistical data covered in the survey include: distribution of 2002 sales dollars, net sales/employee hours, value-added per employee, net sales/production worker hours, total employment costs/net sales, production worker employment costs/net sales, total employment costs/pounds shipped, production worker employment costs/pound shipped, total production related expenses/pound shipped, profits, changes in net sales from 2001 to 2002 and other data. The survey also provides benchmarking data, including percentage of on-time delivery, percentage of customer complaints for orders shipped, percentage of products made that did not meet customers' specifications and employee absenteeism. A list of survey participants, a copy of the original questionnaire and formulas for ratios are included in the survey.
