Contact: Bonnie Limbach FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SPI PRESIDENT TESTIFIES ON NATURAL GAS ISSUES SOUTH BEND, IN (August 14, 2003) - Donald K. Duncan, president of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI), testified today in South Bend, Indiana, at a field hearing of the U.S. House Speaker's Task Force for Affordable Natural Gas. The hearing was called by U.S. Rep. Chris Chocola, a Republican representing Indiana's Second District. Chocola is a member of the 18-person Task Force assigned by Speaker Dennis Hastert to carry out an expedited plan to take the issue to the public, determining the causes of today's natural gas shortage, the impact of natural gas prices on the American economy and short- and long-term strategies to encourage a stable supply to ease prices. Following Mr. Duncan's testimony, Rep. Chocola thanked him for presenting "a very compelling case" for the energy policies needed to protect and promote the US plastics industry. The text upon which Mr. Duncan's remarks were based is attached.
