SPI RELEASES 2004 LABOR SURVEY OF PLASTIC PROCESSORS

WASHINGTON (December 17, 2004) - The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) has released 2004 data on wage rates for plastics processing companies in its 63rd Labor survey of plastic processing companies.

A total of 63 companies reported data for 78 plants in SPI's 2004 Labor Survey. This survey covers plastic processing companies of all types and provides weighted average hourly rates for 61 positions and weighted average monthly base salaries for 13 first-line supervisor positions. Data are broken out by four geographic regions: Northeastern, Midwest, Southern and Western United States.

In addition, the 2004 Labor Survey reports on hours of plant operation per week; seasonal or other bonus statistics for both hourly employees and salaried first-line supervisors; overtime statistics; paid breaks; leased employees; shift policies; shift premium policies; manufacturing teams/cells; hourly to salaries exempt pay system; turnover rate; operator certification, and unions representing the plastics industry.

A list of survey participants, a copy of the original questionnaire and job descriptions for each position are included in the survey.
