![]() Contact: Paula Weis FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SPI's CARTEAUX REPRESENTS PLASTICS INDUSTRY AT WHITE HOUSE MEETINGS (Washington, DC) - Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., president Bill Carteaux and other industry leaders met with President Bush June 27 at a special roundtable organized by the White House to gather input from industry leaders as the president continues to press for Social Security reform. At the meeting, the president laid out his plans to modernize Social Security in advance of his address to the nation last week. The session came just days after Carteaux and others in the business community met with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and other White House officials to talk about the Central American Free Trade Agreement (Cafta). "These meetings were an excellent opportunity to raise the visibility of SPI," Carteaux said following the meeting. "Our involvement demonstrates that the White House is taking seriously the concerns of American manufacturers, including the plastics industry." Others business leaders in attendance at the roundtable with President Bush included John Brinzo of the National Mining Association, Michael Campbell of the American Chemistry Council, Craig Eddy of the Aluminum Association Board and Ziad Ojalki of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, Inc. Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States. SPI's members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers and raw materials suppliers. The U.S. plastics industry employs 1.4 million workers and provides nearly $310 billion in annual shipments. For more information, visit SPI on the Web at www.plasticsindustry.org.
