Cullen, CAE, has joined the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI), the nation’s major plastics industry association, as Vice President, Communications and Marketing. The Washington-based society represents approximately 1,100 companies in all areas of plastics manufacturing, the country’s fourth largest industry. “Cullen will play a key role in our plans for repositioning the Society for the future,” said SPI President and CEO Bill Carteaux, who took over leadership of the society last year after a career in manufacturing. He noted that the 70-year-old SPI is in a dynamic rebuilding phase to provide top quality, innovative new services to members, taking full advantage of the latest communication technologies. “Cullen’s extensive background in the association field as a change agent with vision, technical expertise and demonstrated leadership is a perfect match with SPI’s needs as we face the challenges ahead for our industry,” Carteaux said. A certified association executive (CAE) and cum laude graduate of George Mason University, Cullen was formerly vice president of communications, meetings and member services for the Arlington, VA-based Chlorine Institute, and held senior management and communications positions with the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association, the American Council of Engineering Companies, the Air Conditioning Contractors of America and the American Society of Internal Medicine, where she was executive director of the DC Society of Internal Medicine. # # # Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States.
