![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tracy Cullen SPI Announces NPE 365™ Bringing the Global Plastics Marketplace to the Desktop New service provides a personalized search “agent” for plastics professionals CHICAGO (June 19, 2006) –On the opening day of the NPE 2006 trade show held in Chicago’s McCormick Place, the Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) announced the debut of NPE365™, a powerful new internet search engine that employs the latest technology for two-way, personal searches that filter and produce customized results for the plastics industry. Representing the next generation of Internet search, NPE365™ builds off of the SmartBooth™ and myNPE™ technology used for SPI’s NPE 2006 trade show to match attendees with qualified exhibitors and relevant conference programs. According to SPI President and CEO William Carteaux, the NPE365™ search tool is unique and differs from the usual internet experience in that it uses an individual’s preferences to find relevant items--even when the individual is not online actively searching. “When I go online to conduct market research, the public internet displays everything without discernment, so finding relevant information can be problematic,” said Carteaux. “For example, type in a popular search term like ‘injection molding,’ and 6.5 million results will be displayed. What users really want to see are only those pages that relate to them, their role and their needs.” But Carteaux says the days of wading through millions of irrelevant search results are now over. Referring to NPE365™ as a “personalized agent” Carteaux explained that users can access the online tool in two ways: They can either launch NPE365™ from a web browser, or download NPE365™ to their desktop where it installs next to the tray icons at the bottom of their computer screen. The NPE365™ desktop agent connects to NPE365™ (which is connected to the public internet) and alerts the user once per week or whenever an important “find” occurs. The NPE365™ desktop agent is an “early-warning” system for those in the plastics industry. “Imagine receiving an alert which says, ‘two weeks ago you searched for High Speed Injection Molding; two articles and three new products have been found that match your needs,” Carteaux asked. “We believe building a high trust, highly relevant ‘path’ between what plastics professionals want and what is relevant to them and their jobs will dramatically increase productivity for companies, allowing them to reduce wasted time hunting for information and spend more time driving their company’s profitability,” he said. NPE365™ will be available to all NPE attendees at the conclusion of the show cycle. # # # Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States.
