SPI, Nypro University Agree to Collaborate on Workforce Development

CHICAGO (June 21, 2006) –The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) and Nypro Inc. and have agreed to collaborate on workforce development initiatives announced SPI President and CEO William Carteaux and Nypro Director of Corporate Training and Development Angelo Sabatalo while at the NPE 2006 Trade Show being held this week in Chicago.

“Nypro University is a unique corporate university designed in conjunction with its academic partners,” said Carteaux. “Nypro is a recognized leader in plastics technology learning. … Together we will provide SPI member companies with new opportunities to maximize the skill sets of their employees to give them a competitive advantage in today’s marketplace.”

Sabatalo echoed Carteaux’s enthusiasm for collaboration. “Working together, SPI and Nypro will leverage our collective expertise and combine our strengths in training and certification to provide the plastics industry workforce with life-long learning opportunities,” he said.

Programs expected to be offered over Nypro University’s global distance learning network include a certificate program in plastics technology, the content of which supports SPI’s National Certification’s Plastics Body of Knowledge and customized training across processes. Certificates, continuing education credits and degree credits will be among the offerings through these collaborative efforts. These credits can be applied to AAS and BS degree programs offered by Nypro University’s global partners.

Working with Nypro, Carteaux said that SPI will have new opportunities to secure training and workforce development grants for the plastics industry. Nypro’s education and training programs will also allow SPI members to gain expertise in both the existing and emerging technologies that can shape the future of the plastics industry, he said.

“People make the difference in our organizations and give us the true competitive advantage in today’s marketplace,” said Carteaux. “Working together, Nypro and SPI will expand education and training opportunities to our global plastics industry workforce.”
