![]() FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tracy Cullen SPI WELCOMES KEVIN OTT AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, FILM & BAG FEDERATION AND BIO-PROCESS SYSTEMS ALLIANCE Washington, D.C. (July 16, 2007)—The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) announced the addition of a seasoned trade association professional—one with experience working with manufactures and suppliers in the elastomer products industries—to lead two of its end-market business groups. SPI is the major trade association of the plastics industry, representing some 1,100 companies in all areas of plastics manufacturing. Kevin Ott has joined SPI as executive director of both the Film & Bag Federation (FBF) and the Bio-Process Systems Alliance (BPSA). He will bring a high level of expertise to monitoring technical and regulatory issues, planning conferences and developing a host of "value-added" tailored services for these two niche communities of SPI members. Ott comes to SPI from the Rubber Manufacturers Association's Elastomer Products Group where he spent 12 years as vice president. The Elastomer Products Group served the automotive, industrial and consumer products markets. In addition to rebuilding and enhancing the group's services to member companies, Ott launched an award-winning computer-based training course for professionally certifying machine operators. Ott has also previously enjoyed extended tenures as executive director of the Council on Superconductivity and as assistant vice president for resources, technology and environment at the National Association of Manufacturers. He received a bachelor of arts in environmental science from the University of Virginia. "Kevin's proven track record in association management, and his success with creating non-dues revenue and constantly seeking new ways to upgrade membership value, will be important assets to both SPI and our FBF and BPSA members," said SPI President and CEO William Carteaux. In addition, SPI announced the promotion of Natha Freiburg to assistant director of FBF and BSPA. Freiburg, who has been an SPI staff member for more than three years, served most recently as manager, Government Affairs. Her experience in the plastics industry extends back to 2001 when she began serving as a national outreach educator with the National Plastics Center's PlastiVan™ program. Freiburg received a bachelor of arts degree in social sciences/history from Eastern Illinois University. The Film & Bag Federation is an SPI business unit that actively promotes the growth of the plastic film and bag industry. FBF membership includes companies that are in the plastic bag segment of the industry as well as those in the film sector. The Bio-Process Systems Alliance is an SPI business unit that was organized to meet the challenges of the emerging single-use bioprocessing industry. The group globally promotes the application of single-use products in the biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. # # # Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc., is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States.
