PRODUCT REGULATORY TASK GROUP

Position Statement on California Proposition 65 and Similar Proposals

The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) believes existing federal product labeling and composition requirements, the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, and other existing notification requirements provide adequate public identification of hazardous product constituents. SPI opposes additional labeling through state labeling or other notification requirements because of the undue burden imposed upon companies engaged in interstate commerce, and further, because such laws are often inconsistent or in conflict with applicable federal law.
